The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is played in Pebble Beach, California. Pebble Beach is one of my favorite courses because of the great views. There are views of the beach and the ocean on almost every hole. This is one of the tournaments that every round is played on different courses. This particular tournament was founded 79 years ago. That makes it one of the oldest tournaments. Entertainer Bing Crosby was the original founder back in 1937. The tournament field consists of 156 pros and 156 amateurs. One amateur and one pro on each team. It was a very good weekend for Vaughn Taylor. He ended up winning both the individual and the pro-am tournament. The pros also get to compete in an individual tournament. The scores from the individual pros are paired with an amateurs score and that is how they determine who wins the team part of the tournament. Vaughn Taylor shot seventeen under on the week to beat Phil Mickelson by one shot. Taylor's team shot 30 under total to win that part by one shot as well. Vaughn Taylor is from the nearby town of Roanoke. He is 30 years old. He has three total wins on the PGA Tour. His first two victories came earlier in his career. He won the Reno Tahoe Open in 2004 and 2005. Vaughn has been a pro since 1999. Vaughn also has one Web.com Tour victory. That came in the 2003 Knoxville Open. The next tournament is the Northern Trust Open.
In the Franklin Templeton Shootout is a tournament that is usually hosted in China. The field of this tournament usually consists of players that have won at least one tournament in the past year. This tournament is played in teams of two. Every day of the tournament is played in different formats. The first round of the tournament is in the Scramble format. The Scramble format is sometimes called Captain's Choice. In the Scramble format each player hits a drive then the players pick a drive to play. Then both players hit a second shot from there. They pick the best shot form there and keep going until they make the ball in the hole. The second round is a Modified Alternate Shot. In normal Alternate shot the team of two selects one guy to hit the drive. Then the person that does not hit the drive hits the second shot. Then the person that hit the drive hits the third shot. That process is repeated until the ball makes its way in the hole. In the third and final round they played better ball. Some people call it best ball. Both players play the hole and then the best score between the two team members becomes the team score. My favorite format is Captains Choice. Most of the tournaments that I play in are played in that format. The winners of this tournament are Jason Dufner and Brandt Snedeker. They shot an average of ten under par on each day. Their total score was 30 under par in three days.
The CIMB Classic was played on October 29 to November 1. It was played at Kuala Lumpur G & CC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This tournament was first played in 2010. This is the only official PGA Tour tournament that is played in Southeast Asia. There were 78 total players that competed in this tournament. There were 60 players from the PGA Tour, 10 from the Asian Tour, and 8 that got sponsors exemptions. Justin Thomas ended up pulling ahead and winning the tournament. He and Brendan Steele were tied at 20 under par after three rounds. He finished with a total score of 26 under par for the weekend. He is the youngest ever CIMB Classic winner. That was also his first ever PGA Tour win. Adam Scott played a bogey free round and shot 63 to fall one shot shy of a playoff with Thomas. A few past winners are Adam Scott, Kevin Na, and Brendan Steele. This is a very cool tournament to watch on television because there is different scenery than what we have in the United States. It is tough for the PGA Tour players because the grass is very different than anything they will see around here. However, this facility is not only for golf. There are gyms, tennis courts, and much much more to choose from. There is lots of things to do for the golfers and their families. The next tournament on the agenda for the PGA Tour is the Sanderson Farms Championship.
The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open was played October 22nd to October 25th 2015. The par was 71. This tournament is mainly to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals all over the country. Businesses will give a donation to the tournament and the tournament will put their business or company on a sign for the viewing audience to see. There was over 125 sponsors for this tournament. The total purse for this tournament was $6,400,000. That is the highest purse that I have seen in a long time. The winner got $1,152,000 of the total purse. Smylie Kauffman ended up winning the tournament with a final score of fifteen under par. He posted an incredible score of ten under on his final round to make a great comeback to win the tournament. That was his first ever win on the PGA Tour. He has been close to winning in past tournaments but he never could seal the deal. There were multiple players that were only one shot behind Smylie that were tied for second place. Those players include Patton Kizzire, Cameron Tringale, Jason Bohn, Alex Cejka, Kevin Na, and Brett Stegmaier. Patton Kizzire had a pretty god day also but he fell one shot short. He finished up the weekend with a score of 63 which is eight under par. Some past winners are Ben Martin, Webb Simpson, and Ryan Moore. The same tournament will be held October 31st to November 6th of this year. The next tournament for this year will be the CIMB Classic.
The first tournament of the year was the Frys.com Open. It was played on the Silverado Resort and Spa North Course in Napa, California. This tournament was started in 2006. Origionally it was called the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open. The par for that week was 72. The total purse for the tournament was $6,000,000. The winner got $1,080,000 and 500 Fed-Ex cup points. I love to watch this tournament because the margin of victory is always close. In the past five years the margin of victory has been two or below. Three of those victories being in a playoff. There was some very good competitors in this golf tournament. Some of the big names were Rory McIlroy, Boo Weekly, and Kevin Na. Harold Varner III and Martin Laird were tied at seven under par. They both fell out of the top ten later in the tournament. Emiliano Grillo and Kevin Na managed to make their way to the top of the leaderboard and were tied at fifteen under par at the end of regulation. They went to the eighteenth hole for a playoff and Emiliano Grillo ended up winning. Two of the past winners are Sangmoon Bae and Jimmy Walker. The tournament donated one million dollars to charity. The charities can do a lot of things with a million dollars. Some of the players also donate money to charity. Some players have started their own charities. The next tournament is the Shriners Hospitals for Kids Open.
The Valspar Championship started on Thursday, March 10, 2016 and ended on Sunday, March 13, 2016. This tournament has been going on since 1977. This year it was held at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. The designer is Larry Packard. The Innisbrook resort has four golf courses, eleven tennis courts, six swimming pools, 60 acres of ponds to fish, and countless other activities that the whole family can enjoy. They even host weddings at the resort. There were a few big names in this tournament but there wasn't a whole lot of them. Some of them were Keegan Bradley, Matt Kuchar, and Jordan Speith. There was an amateur named Lee McCoy that played in the tournament. He got an extension from the tour organizers that let him play for free but the only catch was that he could not collect the prize money that he wins. He ended up beating Jordan Speith and finishing fourth place. He would have won $292,800 but instead he had to leave it on the table and go home with only $350 in his bank account. Charl Schwartzel won the tournament on the first playoff hole against Bill Haas. Charl is from South Africa. He collected $1,098,000 out of the total purse that was $6,100,000. There were lots of sponsors for this tournament but the main one was Valspar. Some of the past winners are Jordan Speith (2015), John Senden (2014), Kevin Streelman (2013), and Luke Donald (2012).
The Waste Management Open was played on the TPC Scottsdale Stadium course in Scottsdale, Arizona. The total purse for the tournament was $6,500,000. The winner got $1,170,000 of that. There was some very good competitors in this golf tournament. Some of the big names were Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Kevin Kisner, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson. After the first round there was a three way tie at -6. Shane Lowry, Rickie Fowler, and Hideki Matsuyama. Number sixteen is a par three that is set up like a stadium. Golf is supposed to be a quiet sport but the fans are yelling and screaming all of the time. Players say that you have to embrace it you can not ask them to be quiet or they will get ten times louder. You just can't let the noise bother you. Francisco Molinari decided to pump up the crowd when he made a hole in one at the sixteenth. Everyone was jumping up and down and cheering. The fans even started to throw beer cans onto the hole. Rickie Fowler and Hideki Matsuyama were tied at -14 at the end of regulation. On the fourth sudden death playoff hole Rickie fowler hit his ball into the water. Hideki Matsuyama beat Rickie on that hole. This playoff was a fun one to watch they were back and fourth on every hole. i thought that Rickie was going to win but Hideki pulled it off in the end. The tournament next weekend is the AT&T Pro-am.
Eldrick Tont Woods is considered by many the best golfer to ever live. You guys may know him better as Tiger Woods. He was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress California. Tiger grew up in Orange County California and started playing golf at the age of two. He first broke 80 when he was just eight years old. Tigers parents are Earl and Kultida Woods. His parents were both athletic. Earl was all a golfer and helped Tiger with his golf. Tiger attended Stanford University for two years. Tiger has tow children Sam Alexis, Charlie Axel. His wife name was Elin Nordegren they got married in 2004 and split up in 2010. He turned pro in 1996. He has won 79 times on the PGA Tour and has won 40 times on the European Tour. His 40 wins on the PGA Tour put him at 2nd in history of most wins. He has won 14 major tournaments. Tiger is a great golfer but I think that all of the older golfers like Jack Niklaus and Ben Hogan could shoot the same scores and could be better that Tiger if they had the technology that we have nowadays. The technology has improved a hole bunch since they played on the PGA Tour. They used to use wooden golf clubs but Tiger got to use metal clubs. The metal club allow players to hit the ball a lot farther and are a lot more accurate. They give the modern players a huge advantage over the past players.
Jordan Speith was born on July 27th, 1993. His parents are Chris and Shawn Speith. He has two younger siblings Steven and Ellie. Jordan was born in Dallas, Texas. He still lives in Dallas today. He went to the University of Texas for college. He turned pro in 2012. Jordan Speith is my favorite golfer because he has a cool attitude on the golf course. It is natural to get mad after hitting a bad shot but he never gets mad. Sometimes he gets upset with his shots but he still keeps his head in the game and finishes the round strong. Since turning pro in 2012 he has won 6 tournaments and has made $20,476,933. He won the 2015 Valspar Championship, the 2015 Masters Tournament, the 2015 U.S. Open the 2015 John Deere Classic, the 2015 Tour Championship by Coca-Cola, and the 2013 John Deere Classic. Jordan had a chance to win a grand slam. Arguably the greatest accomplishment in PGA Tour golf. To win a grand slam you have to win all four majors in one year. Only five players have done this in PGA history. Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods are the only ones to ever do this. Those are some of the greatest golfers in the history of golf. To get your name on that list would be a great honor. Right now he is in second place in his first tournament of the year. He is only one shot from the leader. Patrick Reed is winning with a score of 8 under par.
The Congressional country club is located in Bethesda, Maryland. The Country Club was opened in 1924. The Country Club took only two and a half years from the start of planning until it was ready for golf to be played on it. On May 23, 1924 Congressional was open for business. This course has been a popular place for presidents. Early in the clubs years of operation there was no budget and and was poorly run. The club got back on its feet in 1941 but was leased to the Government in 1943. In 1945 the club was returned to its members. There is not only a golf course at congressional there is a swimming pool, a bowling alley, and tennis courts. In the Summer of 1977 there was an additional nine holes added to the course so there was a grand total of 36 holes. There is the Blue Course and the Gold Course. Tiger Woods has hosted his tournament for a number of years. I have a been to Tiger Woods' tournament at congressional. That is the only PGA Tour tournament that I have ever been to. I had a blast, the course was in great shape and it is amazing to see all of the players that you watch on television in real life. Some of my favorite players were there and i got to follow them around and watch them play. It was a great experience for me and my dad. I would love to go back or go to another PGA tournament in the future.
