There are a few different types of fishing you can do in Virginia. You can fish for Bass, Trout, Perch, or you can just fish for whatever you can catch. There is no real "season for trout but the fishing is best in the spring and fall. However you can only catch six per day and they have to be seven inches long to keep. The state record for a brown trout is 14 pounds and 12 ounces. Adult brown trout are usually between seven and fourteen inches long. Rainbow trout are pretty similar to brown trout. The only thing that is different is the color of them (as you could probably tell from the name). You can catch bass any time of the year. The record in Virginia for a largemouth bass is sixteen pounds and four ounces. the state record for a smallmouth bass is eight pounds one ounce. There are a couple of different ways to fish. Some people fly fish and some people use a spinning rod. Fly rods are very difficult to use and take lots of practice to get the hang of. Fly rods take lots of space to cast. I just use a spinning rod because I fish in a place where there are lots of trees so it is hard to cast. I usually fish with a lure called a Mepps spinner. The lure looks like a fly and it spins and is shiny so the bass really like to bite it .
Hunting is a fun thing to do in the outdoors.. Lots of times you will go hunting after an animal and you won't find any. Hunting is fun but it takes lots of patience and trying. You can't go into the woods and expect to kill a big buck every time. Sometimes you will get lucky and kill a big one on the first day but that rarely happens. To find a good hunting spot you have to scout for food. Deer will not only eat one thing they like to eat a variety of food. The type of food they eat depends on their environment. They like acorns, grass, buds and even small twigs. They travel on different trails on different days. Sometimes they will even travel at night. The deer travel at night especially on full moons. The next day isn't good hunting because the deer were eating all night. There are three different hunting seasons for deer. There is bow season, Muzzleloader, and rifle season. I don't bow hunt so I don't know much about that. There are two different seasons for muzzleloader. There is an early season and a late season. The early season starts October 31st and ends November 13th. The late season starts December 12th and ends January 2nd. Rifle season starts November 14th and ends November 28th. Squirrel season starts September 5th and ends February 29th for grey squirrels but ends January 31st for fox squirrels. Turkey season starts October 24th and ends November 6th but you can also hunt on November 26th
